Applications for Incoming Eighth Graders

Please carefully read the instructions for applying to the Magnet here. Once you have read through the instructions and gathered all relevant information, current MCPS students can complete the online application here using their MCPS Google/Choromebook accounts. Students in private school or other non-MCPS students will have access to the application on October 8th. The application deadline is November 2nd.

Magnet Picnic

Our annual back-to-school picnic for all new and returning Magnet students, Magnet alumni, and their families will be Wednesday, August 29th from 5:00-7:30 PM. Find out all the details here, and you can RSVP on this Google form.

Regeneron Finalists

Congratulations to Blair's Regeneron (formerly Intel) Science Talent Search Finalists: Sarah Gao, Andrew Komo, David Wu, and Alice Zhang! Blair has more STS Finalists this year than any other school, four out of the forty students nationwide who will be competing for the top scholarship prize of $250,000 later this spring.

Magnet Arts Night Rescheduling Info

Magnet Arts Night, originally scheduled for January 19th, has been rescheduled for February 23rd at 7:00 PM. Dress rehearsal will February 22nd.

Siemens Winner!

Congratulations Senior Andrew Komo, who won the top individual prize of a $100,000 scholarship at this year's Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology! Andrew's project involved developing a system to protect online auctions from fraud and cheating.

Regeneron Scholars

Congratulations to Blair's Regeneron (formerly Intel) Science Talent Search Scholars, Sarah Gao, Kevin Jiang, Andrew Komo, Uro Lyi, Anish Senapati, Arman Siddique, Shriyash Upadhyay, David Wu, Katherine Wu, Alice Zhang, Ariel Zhang. These eleven Blazers are amoung this years 300 Scholars, who have a chance of being choosen to be among the 40 Regeneron STS Finalists late this January.

20th Annual Chesapeake Bay Bowl

Students from the Blair Magnet successfully defended last year's championship and took First Place in this year's Chesapeake Bay Bowl. The team of Emma Jin, Juliana Lu-Yang, Alex Miao, Lara Shonkwiler, and Jamie Vinson now qualify for the National Ocean Sciences Bowl in April against 24 other regional-winning schools.

Recognizing that education is an individual experience that depends on the unique talents and interests of each person, the mission of the Blair Magnet Program is to provide an environment in which each person's education is maximized by emphasizing the interrelationships among the disciplines, developing a repertoire of problem-solving techniques, and pursuing both independent and collaborative research projects

To realize the above mission, the staff nurtures the special talents of its academically able students by fostering individualism, independent thinking, and self-confidence by challenging those students through a unique, diversified curriculum. The environment, structure, and content promote the self-learner concept in which students participate in constructing their own knowledge base and learn problem-solving strategies that foster the multidisciplinary approach. The scope of their education extends beyond traditional classroom boundaries as students are asked to connect with a community that includes not only parents, mentors, other students, and staff but also a physical environment as diverse as our region.
